Dallas Mavericks owner, Mark Cuban, announced that they will be accepting the cryptocurrency Bitcoin as a form of payment for the 2018-2019 NBA season. He also announced that they will also be accepting Ether, the rival to Bitcoin which is built on the ethereum blockchain.
The news first broke after Cuban was asked on Twitter when tickets will be available for purchase with Bitcoin, to which Cuban replied, “Next season.”
Bloomberg was the first to report that the 59-year-old billionaire Mark Cuban invested in Bitcoin in 2017 after calling it a bubble earlier in the year. “I think it’s in a bubble. I just don’t know when or how much it corrects. When everyone is bragging about how easy they are making $=bubble,” Cuban wrote on June 6 in a tweet subsequently deleted but reported by Business Insider. “Anyone anywhere can buy a stock,” he wrote in a subsequent tweet that day. “#crypto is like gold. More religion than asset. Except of course gold makes nice jewelry. #crypto notsomuch.”
Cuban has also invested in a Seattle-based startup called Unikrn, which is an eSports betting company that in August of 2017 launched its own cryptocurrency, UnikoinGold.
